Renewable Energy Africa
2011 is proudly beyond carbon neutral.
Carbon footprinting has
quickly become the global indicator of
environmental sustainability.
At the 2011 World
Economic Forum on Africa held in Cape Town
in May, President Zuma admitted that South
Africa is a hugely carbon intensive country
and the issue of international climate
change is a “matter of life and death”.
The Renewable Energy
Africa team took a decision to ensure the
conference was Beyond Carbon Neutral. We are
proud to have GreenerFuture to assist us in
reaching our goal.
GreenerFuture, a carbon
management consultancy advises on how to
neutralise carbon emissions to reduce your
carbon footprint.
Scott Walker, CEO of
GreenerFuture, brought a threefold solution
to the table:
1)
Measure:
Measuring and calculating the carbon
emissions generated by the conference using
international greenhouse gas accounting
standards.
2)
Manage:
Managing these emissions and suggesting ways
to reduce energy consumption.
3)
Offset:
Neutralizing or offset of emissions by
purchasing ‘carbon credits’ from verified
South African emission reduction projects
that are proven to reduce carbon emissions.
“At
GreenerFuture
we take it
even further” says Scott. “We take our
clients beyond carbon neutral by reducing
additional carbon emissions and contributing
a portion of our revenues to the
ecosystempatch
project which
supports biodiversity. Our vision is that of
a low carbon society that exists with fully
functioning natural ecosystems. We aim to
reduce emissions as well as protect the
valuable, natural ecosystems that sustain
life on earth.”
